2022 Highlights

The Social Impact Collective is focused on expanding access to education through the creation of high quality, affordable, and innovative pathways for learners for whom our incumbent, scaled offerings are not yet yielding equitable outcomes.

Our work extends online, on campus, and in community.

Global Education Movement

2022 HIGHLIGHTS

The Global Education Movement (GEM) is the first large-scale online learning initiative for refugees across the world. We partner with in-country organizations to deliver high-quality, low-cost education tailored to meet the needs of displaced learners. Our model blends academic instruction, internships and on-the-job training, individualized coaching, psychosocial support, and career counseling. It’s designed to grow the strengths that can lead to new livelihood opportunities and stability.

FISHING IN THE DESERT PROJECT

GEM student, Glory (Lukambo) Luundo, and several students living in Kakuma refugee camp established Fishing in the Desert, a sustainable and self-sufficient agricultural system to feed camp residents. Glory is fighting hunger and malnutrition in the Kakuma refugee community by establishing fish ponds to farm tilapia and catfish. Despite tough competition from over 150 other groups, the Fishing in the Desert project was one of just four student teams to win the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP)’s first NextGen East African Innovators Programme

SNHU partnered with our first refugee led site partner, the ATE Hub in Malawi. The first ATE Hub cohort is making strong progress and our new RLO partner is preparing to enroll their next cohort.

We have moved from start-up to a more established program w a proven track record. As we look forward to increasing our impact and reach by 30% in the next year, identifying the right fit partners is important.

95% of GEM students feel strongly that the knowledge and skills they are learning in their SNHU academic programs will help them achieve their personal and professional goals.

TRELLIS 2022 GRADUATION

Members of the CP team traveled to New Orleans in early December to celebrate Trellis’ first cohort of graduates at an in-person ceremony.

Within a year of launching, Trio, our national-scale partner, celebrated their 100th student enrollment across their network by gathering site leaders, community members, SNHU leaders and learners to share their stories and celebrate this accomplishment.

Between January 1 and December 31, 2022, Community Partners served 2,006 unique learners representing 3,322 total term enrollments across six term starts.

Fall 2022 represented the largest term starts (22DA08 and/or 22DA10) in total enrollments to date for several partners, including: AdvanceEDU, College Together, Trio New College Network, Rivet School, and Trellis.

CP continues to see improvements in the percentage of learners mastering 6+ competencies per term. These gains are being led by our partner Duet, who saw a 15% increase in learners achieving the 6+ competency mastery milestone from FY21 to FY22.

Over the course of the past year, CP surpassed 1,000 degrees earned. To date, CP learners have earned 1,159 degrees.

  • This fall, Duet celebrated the significant milestone of supporting learners to 500 degrees completed.

  • Degree Forward launched in the Fall of 2021 and celebrated their first graduation in October of this year.
